Simply put, a filler is just one type of injectable. A broad term used to describe both fillers and neuromodulators, such as BOTOX® or Dysport®, an injectable is any substance administered through a needle for cosmetic purposes. Fillers are HA (Hyaluronic Acid) gel-based products used to restore volume in certain areas of the face to naturally enhance facial features.
The longevity of cosmetic injections varies by treatment. Neuromodulators such as BOTOX® and Dysport® tend to last around three to four months, while dermal fillers can last anywhere from six months to two years. Sculptra® is done in two-to-three series of treatments, and once complete, results can last up to two years. KYBELLA® involves a series of treatments that, once completed, produces long-lasting results by permanently destroying fat cells.
The main difference lies in their active ingredients. BOTOX® is formulated with onabotulinumtoxinA, while Dysport® contains abobotulinumtoxinA. Both are derived from botulinum toxin type A, but they have slight variations in their molecular structures. Other differences include dosage conversion, spread, diffusion and how quickly results can be seen. Some patients see faster onset of results with Dysport®, though exact results will always vary from person to person.
