Mirror, Mirror, on the wall.. I want a youthful face that says it all...
Of all the areas of the face, it is the mid and lower face that troubles
people the most. As we age the skin loses its tight attachment
to the underlying structures. It also loses its elasticity, so it falls
down. The skin becomes thinner as does the layer of fat beneath it. There
are certain points on the face where the skin is tightly attached to the
underlying structures e.g. the corners of the mouth and the lower part of
the ear. The skin appears to hang from these points.
If this is what stares back at you in the mirror everyday, you will probably
need to talk to Dr. James R. Benjamin about receiving a facial rejuvenating
mid facelift.
A mid-face lift restores youthful vitality to the mid-face, lifting the
cheeks and smoothing smile lines to achieve a natural rejuvenated look
without the need to undergo a full facelift. Midface lifts are ideal for
reducing puffiness under the eyes, improving the contour of the upper
cheeks, and correcting nasolabial folds. Incisions are small and hidden in
the eyelids or in the mouth. Midface lifts are often performed in
conjunction with lower-lid blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the area around the
eyes or with implants to accentuate the cheeks.
If you have a large amount of skin hanging under the neck and prominent
jowls you will probably benefit from a mid facelift combined with a neck
lift. With this combined procedure, it moves the skin of the face up and
back. The excess skin is trimmed. The resulting scar is directly in front of
the ear and continues down and behind the ear. It will often improve the
hanging skin, the muscle bands in the neck, the fatty appearance of the neck
(combined with fat removal). Dr. Benjamin will not perform facelifts on
smokers because there is an increased risk of skin death. He does have some
alternatives for those you just can not quit and will discuss these at your
consultation.
