Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Enlarged male breasts (Gynecomastia) affects nearly 40-60% of men, often with no known cause. This condition can be highly embarrassing as well as physically uncomfortable. Men who feel self-conscious about enlarged breasts may seek breast reduction surgery. The procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in some cases excess skin as well. The result is a flatter, firmer chest.
Who is a candidate?
- Men who have large breasts due to weight, genes, or glandular dysfunction.
- Men who have significant psychosocial stress due to the size of their breast.
- Men who have one breast larger than the other.
Intended results
- To improve the contour of breast by reducing the size.
- To create a more harmonious upper chest look.
- To reduce the significant psychosocial stress that men feel due to large breasts.
Procedure description
- After determining that the large breasts are not due to a serious
glandular or hormonal problems, Smart Lipo (Liposuction) is used to aspirate
the excess fat and breast elements.
- Occasionally, a formal surgical breast reduction is needed in men who
have very large and pendulous breasts.
- The procedure is often done under general anesthesia at our surgical
center.
