Breast Implant Removal/Replacement
Breast implants usually do not last forever. While most women with breast
implants do well for many years, situations can arise where secondary
procedures may be needed to help reach a more ideal aesthetic appearance.
Increased firmness, or capsular contracture, can occur due to changes in the
scar capsule that forms around an implant. In the case of silicone gel
implants, such a situation usually calls for an evaluation to ensure that
the implant has not ruptured. Rupture of a saline implant is usually more
readily apparent. Surgical procedures to divide or remove the implant capsule may be needed with possible implant removal or replacement.
Your aesthetic goals may have changed over time. You may have decided that
a particular breast size or shape that was important to you earlier in life
may be different from your present goals or wishes. Dr. Benjamin and his
staff, have many options to help improve the outcome for your goal to
change your breast appearance or correct an implant problem. Some
solutions can include saline or silicone gel implant removal with or without
replacement.
You may be a candidate for removal of *breast implants* if you desire to
have previously placed breast implants removed for medical or personal
reasons. The intent of this surgery is the removal of your implants, and
possible removal of capsules (scar tissue) and local silicone. Replacing
with new implants to achieve a more firmer result can be combined
with a breast lift.
